St. Edward’s University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Specialized Faculty (non-tenure-track) position as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Religious and Theological Studies, beginning August 2024. St. Edward’s is characterized by its commitment to the Holy Cross educational mission to educate the hearts and minds of a diverse student body that is deeply committed to social justice. The successful candidate will have the interest and ability or potential to teach a range of undergraduate courses in Religious and Theological Studies and Catholic Studies. Among these courses are Introduction to Catholicism and Basic Christian Questions, as well as upper-level seminars like the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, Christian Spirituality, or Sacraments.

For consideration, candidates must hold a PhD or have ABD status (dissertation work for the doctoral degree underway with master’s degree attained) in Theology, Religious Studies, or Catholic Studies from an accredited institution and have a specialization in systematic theology, the history of Christian theology, moral theology, liturgical studies, or ecclesiology. Teaching experience is preferred.
Essential Responsibilities:
- The standard course load includes ten teaching units per year for Specialized Faculty (full-time non-tenure-track), which may involve multiple sections of the same course. One teaching unit is equivalent to one standard three-credit course.
- Advising and mentoring a diverse body of students is considered part of the teaching responsibility.
- One or more courses may be reassigned for departmental service such as curriculum development, program assessment duties, and departmental committees, pending the recommendation of the Chair and approval of the Dean and Provost.
