Current Officers and Board Members

NAPS is governed by a Board of Directors, which meets at least once a year. The Vice President is responsible for organizing the program of the annual meeting, or conference, during his or her term of office. Officers and other members of the Board of Directors are elected at the open business meeting that takes place during the annual meeting of the Society.

Board Committees

  • The Awards and Prizes Committee (APC)

The APC receives and vets applications for the grants and awards listed here (except for the “best first book” and “best first article” prizes). The APC was first created as an ad-hoc committee of the Board in 2012. Its membership varied until the Board established it as a standing committee in 2014. It is comprised of the following eight members:

Chair: Immediate Past President

Members: One of the two Members-at-Large to the Board serving in their second year; six individuals from the membership of the Society (not Board members) each serving a three-year term. The Nominating Committee recruits and nominates to the Board these six individuals. Two are nominated each year in order to ensure staggered terms.

  • Digital Humanities Committee (DHC)

The DHC is responsible for organizing at each annual meeting one or more sessions on digital publishing and research; editing and maintaining the sections of the NAPS website pertaining to digital research and publishing; consulting as requested on digital projects or proposals by NAPS committees that include components involving digital research and publishing; and communicating to those outside the committee about relevant tools, projects, grants, and other aspects of digital research and publishing.

Chair: The chair of the DHC shall be chosen by the committee from its own members.

Members: One of the two Members-at-Large to the Board serving in their second year; four individuals from the membership of the Society (not Board members) each serving a two-year term. The Nominating Committee recruits and nominates to the Board these individuals.

  • NAPS Guidance Committee (NGC)

The NGC is responsible for (1) ensuring, with the assistance of the Board if necessary, that all ad hoc committees of the Society have the resources necessary to pursue and complete their charges, including provisions for each committee’s structure; (2) maintaining essential records of meetings, deliberations, and conclusions of the various committees as they proceed in their work; (3) reporting to the President of the Society with respect to the progress of individual committees as might be deemed appropriate; and (4) reporting to the Board at its regular meeting in conjunction with the annual meeting about the progress of the committee.

Chair: The chair of the NGC will be the senior member.

Members: The committee will consist of three NAPS members who are not currently members of the Board. Each member of the NGC will serve three years, ascending to the position of Chair in the final year of their term. The Nominating Committee recruits and nominates to the Board these three individuals.
